Tamworth Bathing Pool
Opened 1937 Tamworth
Tamworth open air pool laid in the Tamworth Castle Pleasure Grounds. The pool replaced the Victorian in- door baths in Church Street.
I remember the hot summer days when my father drove me to this pool.
Midland District Diving Championships were held here and I remember the 3 metre springboard went uphill which alarmed me as I had to perform a reverse dive, which rotates round back to the board. I must have done ok, although very nervous, and managed to win the Girls Trophy.
Here are some members of the Birmingham Diving Club (I believe) - to the right - showing off one of their hilarious comedy sketches during a Gala. Fun days, happy days.
OUTCOME:
The pool closed in 1989 and became yet another kind of paradise for children Under 6
“TheTreasure Island Play Area”
There was much camaraderie here.
The Lido lived on until the eighties, and with the climate and the easily affordable flights abroad, patronage declined.
